Are there some places you just shouldn’t go to without a tour guide? A recent article suggests that there are, and includes Egypt, Russia, China, India and a few others among them. We’re not so sure we agree; we think most of the places the article covers can be handled sans tour guide as long as you are willing to do some research before you go and be conscientious of local culture (both of which are things a traveler should be doing anyway!). What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
Ah, yes. The Tour Guide question: Our rule of thumb: 1) What part of the country are we going to? (if remote or we don’t speak the language, definitely need a guide), 2) how much time do we have? If there are lots of people on one tour, it can slow things down, 3) Do we want to be on a “Schedule”? This can really make or break it for us. The whole point of a vacation is to live and breathe the culture…but not to get kidnapped! 🙂 Great post!
thanks for the comment!
