This coming weekend, Oct. 9-12, Travel Brigade will be heading to the towns of Ketchum and Hailey in Idaho, for the 2014 Trailing of the Sheep Festival. If the names of Ketchum and Hailey sound familiar, it’s because Ernest Hemingway spent time there and the world-famous Sun Valley Resort sits right next door.
The Festival celebrates the history and culture of the sheepherding industry in the area that still continues to this day. The weekend includes events such as the Championship Sheepdog Trials, and is highlighted on Sunday by a parade of 1,500 sheep – along with a bunch of people – down Ketchum’s Main Street.
You don’t have to be a shepherd to attend the Sheepherders Ball on Saturday night, one of many events throughout the weekend that includes music, entertainment and dining.
